What we liked about this book: It’s hard for a story about an uprising of the proletariat not to resonate right now. Heinlein’s “hard scifi” approach went over well with this audience. We were also big fans of the sentient AI, “Mike.”
What we didn’t like: Heinlein’s decision to write in a clipped, “Lunar” dialect grated all of us. The poor depiction of female characters was also a pretty big drawback for us, but we were careful to take into account the fact that this was written in the 1960s and was probably considered a fairly progressive characterization.
Verdict: Five thumbs up, one thumb sideways
