Special Interest Groups Reports
Readers Group
The Readers Group met on Sunday, August 9, and discussed Undertow by Elizabeth Bear. Wm Boozer enjoyed it and thought it had “funky twists.” The rest of the group did not receive it as enthusiastically.
Next month’s book is The Unlikely Disciple by Kevin Roose. The meeting will be on September 13.
Writers Group
The Writers Group did not meet in August. Wendy Darling is still trying to find a host venue.
Gaming
Game Night at Robert and Jack’s went well this month.
Strategy Gaming was canceled for this month due to inability to find a host.
New Business
Edward DeGruy and Jeff Smith talked about buying a digital picture frame for our table at Dragon*Con. Outlantacon already intends to buy several, so it will probably get a bulk discount on them and give one to Atlanta Outworlders. Any Outworlders expense for such a purpose will come out of the public relations budget.
Robert Marshall and Jack Rowley will probably host the Hallowe’en party, which will probably take place Pride 2009 weekend, at the end of October. More on this as it develops.
Robert also says he can print up posters for us for Pride and for Dragon*Con. Kris Harter will look into getting an easel to display such posters.
Old Business
We hope to have a digital picture frame for the Dragon*Con fan table.
Atlanta Outworlders and Outlantacon requested separate tables, but side-by-side, for Dragon*Con. According to the Dragon*Con Web site, however, the two groups are sharing one table. Edward DeGruy has been trying, so far unsuccessfully, to contact the man who schedules the fan tables for the convention to clear up the confusion.
The Sunday night Atlanta Outworlders party for Dragon*Con is currently in limbo, because Robert Marshall has not yet secured a suite in any of the four host hotels.
Jeff Smith is coordinating the fan table for Pride 2009.
The meeting adjourned at 12:16 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Vandy Beth Glenn, Secretary, Atlanta Outworlders.
