OutWorlders, Inc.

July 2009

The regular business meeting of OutWorlders was held on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at 11:34 am at Atlanta Diner. Ken Fernandez, Wm Boozer, Vandy Beth Glenn, Alan Siler, Dan Benge, Edward DeGruy, Kris Harter, Michael Green, and Jeff Smith were present. President DeGruy called the meeting to order.

Secretary’s Report

None.

Treasurer’s Report

We have $2,318.08.

Events Coordinator’s Report

The Events Coordinator was not present. It was noted that the weekly events messages have not been going out regularly. Some events notices have been sent out via Facebook, which is not the official conduit.

The notifications for this month’s Strategy Gaming were late and confusing, and Strategy Gaming was canceled at the last minute.

Public Relations Coordinator’s Report

We still have no Public Relations Coordinator.

Internet Coordinator’s Report

The Internet Coordinator was not present. He recently changed the method whereby the group’s Web pages are updated; individual officers can make updates to pages that are their responsibility.

Historian’s Report

The group has a history, which will continue to occur and to be documented.

Special Interest Groups Reports

Readers Group

The Readers Group met on July 12 to discuss World Without Winter by Steve Pierce. This was a first novel by a porn actor.

Three people discussed the book in person and others emailed in their comments. It was not a favorite. Wm read a fourth of the book, saw no evidence yet of the plot, and put it down.

Next month’s selection is Undertow by Elizabeth Bear. The group will meet August 9.

Writers Group

There was no report from the Writers Group.

Gaming

Game Night this month was on July 4 at Carlton Harrington’s house. Considering the Independence Day holiday, it was well-attended.

Strategy Gaming, which was to have been on July 18, was canceled on July 17.

New Business

OutlantaCon wants to share our table at Atlanta Pride in October. In compensation, it will provide our snacks.

The Fall Picnic will be at 11 am on September 26 in the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area.

Old Business

OutlantaCon will co-sponsor the Rainbow Flag party at Dragon*Con, so there was no need to vote on whether Atlanta Outworlders will participate. Individual Outworlders are encouraged to help out regardless.

The Atlanta Outworlders fan table at Dragon*Con this year will be in the Hyatt near the Grand Hall, which in the past was the site for Registration. It is a less visible location than would be ideal.

The meeting adjourned at 12:07 p.m.
