OutWorlders

The regular business meeting of OutWorlders was held on Sunday, 16 March 2003, at 2:10 p.m. at the Atlanta Diner, the President being in the chair and the Secretary being present. The following sponsoring members were present: Bil Boozer, Amy Coppeans, Chris Coppeans, Ed deGruy, Will Gauvin, Kris Harter, Joy Hatcher, Marlina McKay, Lynn Swetz.

President's Report

The President had no report.

Vice President's Report

The Vice President had no report.

Treasurer's Report

Joy Hatcher reported that Mike Allgood had been paid for the website expenses for 2002 for which he had submitted appropriate records. She indicated that a letter regarding the trivia contest/fund-raiser had been faxed to Cowtippers, and we were awaiting a response. It's likely the event will need to be moved to April. Given the organization's current financial state, a fund-raiser is desperately needed. The organization has obtained an Employer Identification Number, so it can open a banking account as an organization now.

Secretary's Report

The Secretary had no report.

Internet Coordinator

Chris Coppeans announced that http://www.outworlders.info/ would be the new address of the organization's web site.

Events Coordinator

Kris Harter announced that the organization's spring picnic would be held on 13 April 2003, the afternoon preceding April's Dr. Who Night. She further discussed providing food at the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season finale in May at Miss Q's and said she would be having 100 t-shirts made to be purchased as a fund-raiser for the organization.

Officer Appointment

Ed deGruy announced that Alan Siler had been appointed to the position of Public Relations Coordinator for the organization.

Readers' Group

The Readers' Group will be meeting on Sunday, 23 March 2002, to continue discussion of Storm Constantine's Sign for the Sacred. The subsequent meeting is scheduled for 13 April 2003, and the book for discussion will be Bending the Landscape: Science Fiction edited by Stephen Pagel and Nicola Griffith. Stephen Pagel has been invited to attend the meeting.

Proposals

A number of proposals had been introduced at the February business meeting for consideration at the March meeting.

03-03-01. Funding Request for Writers' Retreat. (Joy Hatcher)

Whereas the writers' group is planning a retreat that will contain at least six hours of workshops and guest speakers and will focus on educating participants about how to get published and how to create work that people want to read, be it hereby

Resolved, THAT OutWorlders allot $100 to Sponsoring Member Joy Hatcher to purchase snacks and to support the cost of renting space for a writers' retreat.

The proposal was adopted by a vote of 8 in favor, 0 opposed, and 1 present.

03-03-02. Funding Request for Historian Duties (Joy Hatcher)

Resolved, THAT OutWorlders allot $30 to the Historian to cover the cost of a scrapbook and other necessities to be approved by the Treasurer.

The proposal was adopted by a vote of 7 in favor, 0 opposed, and 2 present.

03-03-03. Funding Request for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Finale (Will Gauvin)

Whereas the members of OutWorlders desire to recognize him for the service and support that he has provided the organization, be it hereby

Resolved, THAT OutWorlders use $40 to buy pizza for this year's finale to Buffy The Vampire Slayer; and
THAT Miss Q's be approached about contributing to the cost of the pizzas.

The proposal was not adopted by a vote of 3 in favor, 5 opposed, and 1 present.

Atlanta Pride Event

The organization established a Pride Committee at its previous meeting. Recruitment for the committee shall be done through the mailing lists. Joy Hatcher said that money collected at the organization's Pride booth could not be handled by people who were not sponsoring members of the organization.

Dragon*Con/Black Pride

Members discussed the organization's participation in Dragon*Con 2003 and the annual Black Pride March, which occurs the same weekend.

New Proposals

The following proposals were introduced for consideration at the April meeting:

03-04-01. Funding Request for Buffy Finale Gathering (Will Gauvin)

Resolved, THAT OutWorlders use $40 to buy food for this year's finale to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

03-04-02. Funding Request for Dragon*Con Party Room (Joy Hatcher)

Resolved, THAT OutWorlders provide funding for 2 rooms for 1 night for a promotional party at Dragon*Con.

OutWriters

Joy Hatcher announced that there were three new members to the writers' group. The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, 20 April 2003.

The March regular business meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m. The next regular business meeting will be 20 April 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Atlanta Diner.
